About eep

This portal is a joint venture being taken forward by a group of organisations that wish to make research evidence more widely available. eep strategic and operational matters are managed by a Development Group. A subset of this group meets as the Editorial Group which manages the content of the portal. CfBT Education Trust provides leadership and management for the project and members of the Development Group and makes contributions in various ways.

The content searched by the portal comes from a wide range of organisations associated with eep. In one mode ("search all"), websites from all of these can be searched. In a second mode ("search selected"), a database containing selected resources currently from a subset of organisations can be searched. These are indexed (or meta-tagged) by British Education Index to provide a more refined search. As the portal becomes more widely known it is expected that more organisations will join in and the database of selected materials will grow.

The software, based on MSN search technology, is being developed in collaboration with Microsoft as part of its Partners in Learning programme. The current version is the first to be publicly available. It is expected that upgrades will be made to the design of the portal periodically. Further content will be added as it becomes available.

Changes to the portal are influenced by feedback from users, in particular, a 2007 report by Mark Rickinson, based on in-depth interviews.
