Managing EAL: Secondary strategies around the clock - Teachers TV (2005)

Teachers TV

This Teachers TV presentation follows two children in Valentines High School in Redbridge, a school known for its expertise in working with learners of English as an additional language. One Turkish speaking pupil is a beginner at English and has had little education in his first language; the other pupil is a Twi speaker with qualifications in German, her second language.

The short clips showing classroom practice throughout the day demonstrate key strategies used to support pupils and are interspersed with commentaries from staff who work with the pupils. These explain the rationale for the strategies and demonstrate a whole school integrated approach to EAL.

This video is particularly useful to tutors and student teachers/trainees in a low diversity setting in which there is little opportunity to observe good practice at first hand.
