Aims of the conference
The conference, attended by 110 participants, aimed to explore current debates on diversity and achievement and examine ways in which diversity can be embedded in mainstream practice. Speakers included Arthur Ivatts, Heidi Mirza, Bhikhu Parekh and Diane Reay who participated in a panel debate 'Diversity and Achievement: Key Issues in Education'. (Click on link below to view report of the panel debate). There were workshops to discuss issues at a regional level and an opportunity to discuss strategies for mainstreaming diversity in ITE. To view reports from the workshops go to the 'In Your Area' section of the website and select a region.

How to download the presentations
The presentations are contained in "zip" files to reduce the amount of space each one takes up.
To download each file follow the instructions below.
Windows XP and Vista Users:
Click on the link for the presentation that you wish to download and select "Save" to save the zip file to your computer. The amount of time taken to download the zip file will depend on the speed of your internet connection.
Once the file has been downloaded and saved to your computer, right click on the file and choose the option to "Extract all...". Follow the instructions to extract all files to a folder.
For the Bilingual and Multilingual Learner, Social Class and ‘Race' and Ethnicity presentations, double click on the folder to open it and then, double click the play.bat file to run the presentation. To view presenter's notes for each slide double click on the .ppt file.
For the Travellers and Roma Presentation, open the folder and double click the PresentationV3.exe file to play.
Other Users:
If you do not have access to software for extracting zip files, you may wish to go to www.winzip.com/prod_down.htm to download a trial version of the software.
