Models of disability and SEN have been subject to extensive discussion and debate as their proponents have attempted to provide a framework for understanding the way in which people experience disability (Low, 2006; Mitra, 2006). This glossary contains: definitions, historical overview and guidance, key resources and implications for practice.
Multi-sensory impairment (MSI) arises from a wide range of causes; children may be born with MSI or acquire it following illness or injury. This glossary covers implications for practice in detail.
The P scales are descriptions of attainment levels below level 1 of the National Curriculum and were first published in 1998 by the Department for Education and Skills (DfES) and the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA).
The term pedagogy is defined by Watkins & Mortimore (1999:3) as ‘any conscious activity by one person designed to enhance the learning of another'.
