Are there any age requirements or restrictions in place?
Our vacancies are open to everyone regardless of age.
I'm a Non EEA National. Can I still apply for a vacancy?
Please refer to the Non EEA section where you can download the comprehensive guidance notes for further details.
How do I know if I'm qualified for a particular vacancy?
You should refer to the job description for the role you are applying for as this documents the essential and desirable criteria (technical skills section) needed to meet the requirements of the post.
Do you accept CVs for positions?
Unless specified, Trinity House vacancies require the completion of an application form. Whilst the submission of an up to date CV is encouraged to support your application form, CVs alone will not be accepted.
How should I apply for a vacancy?
Online
If you have regular access to the internet then online applications are encouraged, enabling you to download, complete and submit the application form electronically. Completed applications should be sent to: jobs@thls.org
By Post
If you are unable to submit your application form electronically then postal applications are also welcomed. In this instance, you should call the HR Department on 01255 245000 to request an application form. Completed applications should be sent to:
Whether applying online or sending by post please ensure that your application reaches Trinity House by no later than 09:00 hrs on the specified close date.
How long will it take to complete my application form?
The application form should be completed with as much detail as possible. Please make sure that you evidence your educational/career history in the boxes provided to demonstrate how these meet the requirements for the post. The form should take between 30 - 90 minutes to complete dependent on the number of technical skills you are required to evidence.
Do I have to fill in the Equal Opportunities Form as part of my application?
This form is not essential; however, Trinity House is committed to providing equal opportunities at all stages of the recruitment and selection process. Short-listing, interviewing and selection will be carried out without reference to gender, sexual orientation, martial status, race, nationality, ethnic or national origins, religion or belief, age and disability. The completed form will be detached from your main application upon receipt in the HR Department and will be used for monitoring purposes only. The form is treated in the strictest confidence.
Can I email or call Trinity House to follow up my application?
If you send your application form by email then Trinity House will acknowledge receipt upon arrival. Unfortunately, we are unable to do this for postal applications so it is advisable, if sending by this method, to contact the HR Department to check it has been received. Please also make sure that if sending by post you place the correct postage cost on the envelope to ensure you cover its weight and size.
I have missed the closing date. Can I still apply?
Unfortunately, once the closing date has elapsed no further applications can be accepted or considered for short-listing.
How will I know if I'm selected for an interview?
Once the close date has elapsed please allow between 5 to 10 working days for short-listing to take place. Trinity House will write to every applicant, via email or letter, to notify you if you've been selected for interview or not.
How does the short-listing process work?
Each candidate's application form is assessed and scored against the key technical skills required for the post (as detailed in the job description). Candidates who score the highest are short-listed for interview provided they meet all the required essential criteria.
What can I expect at the interview stage?
If selected for an interview, Trinity House will send you an invitation letter via email or post informing you of all the details. The majority of interviews last between 45 - 60 minutes dependent on the level of role. For more senior positions you may be asked to present on a topic of the interview panel's choice. Trinity House also utilises aptitude tests and personality questionnaires for some roles.
Does Trinity House support work experience placements or apprenticeships?
Whilst we fully support work experience placements, it is necessary to limit this to one student per academic year. The placement occurs at the Harwich Depot only through an agreement with the local School.
Trinity House only recruit apprentices into posts where they are required to work and study towards either an NVQ Level 3 or an HNC in Electronic or Electrical Engineering. All apprenticeship placements are advertised on this site.
