Winter Resilience Review

An independent review into the response of England’s transport system to severe winter weather was announced by the then Secretary of State on 30 March 2010; Lessons Learned from the Severe Weather of Winter 2009-10. The review, steered by a panel of three leading independent experts, will consider the resilience of our Transport systems to periods of severe winter weather.

Interim Report

The first of these reports was published on 26th July and focused on measures which can be implemented relatively quickly in relation to England’s highway networks, in preparation for winter 2010/11.  Read the report, Written Ministerial Statement and accompanying press notice:

Final Report

The Final Report will be published in the autumn and will consider the resilience of railways and aviation, the economics of winter resilience, communications and public expectations and the longer-term reshaping of the road salt supply chain.
