SITPRO NEWS Trade Facilitation Now!

The 8th Security Forum was held on the 20 April 2005. The meeting was very well attended with over thirty attendees from business as well as government, reflecting the importance of security issues and the burgeoning legislative activity in the area. An increased burden is placed on the trade as a whole swathe of new security legislation comes into force and the Forum called for a joined-up and consistent approach from government. They suggested that new security legislation, supported by the trade, should be proportionate and based on appropriate risk-assessment.

The meeting covered a wide range of issues including: ISPS Code, EU Proposals on the Port Security Directive, Transport Security Directive; Container Seals and C-TPAT; Container Security Initiative (CSI) and the Security Amendment to the Community Customs Code; and the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Consultative Group on the Framework of Standards (Security).

The members agreed to flag up any areas where improved dialogue between the trade and government could help facilitate trade.
