Visit a state building on Open House weekend

If you're in London or Glasgow this weekend, why not take part in Open House? On Friday 17 September you could go on a night time walk around Glasgow or London to raise money for charity. And on Saturday 18 to Sunday 19 September, you can visit hundreds of buildings all over London on Open House weekend.

Go hiking round the city on Friday 17th September

Take part in a hike around London or Glasgow, visit some landmark buildings across the city and help raise funds to tackle cancer. You need to sign up ahead of time to take part, but you can do so easily online or by phone.

If you go on the London Night Hike, you will get special late night access to buildings such as the Guildhall, the Royal Geographical Society in Kensington, and Horse Guards.

In Glasgow, night hikers will be welcomed by Cloisters, Kibble Palace, and the Museum of Modern Art.

Open House events take place in London on the weekend of 18 and 19 September 2010. Some of the main government buildings opening their doors are:

  • Foreign Office & India Office, King Charles Street SW1A 2AH - 10 am to 5 pm both days
  • 26 Whitehall (former Admiralty Buildings) London SW1A 2WH - 10 am to 4.30 pm both days, tours on a first come basis at noon and 2 pm
  • City Hall (home of the Mayor of London) The Queen's Walk, London SE1 2AA - 9 am to 6 pm both days
  • Dover House, Office of the Secretary of State for Scotland, 66 Whitehall, London SW1A 2AU - 10 am to 4 pm Saturday only, pre-book on 020 7270 6762
  • Horse Guards, Whitehall London SW1A 2AX - 10 am to 3.30 pm both days, 45-minute tours on a first come basis, starting every half hour to 3.30pm
  • Government Art Collection, near Tottenham Court Road W1 - 10 am to 5 pm both days; call 020 7580 9120 to book your tour, or email on gac@culture.gsi.gov.uk
