Diversity and inclusion at QCDA

Find out about how we make sure diversity and inclusion are priorities within our organisation and in all of our work in education.

We have various policies, processes and groups in place to make sure we continually monitor and make progress in this area.

Equality schemes

Our Single Equality Scheme sets out the current status of equality at QCDA. It details our commitment to equality and how we propose to deal with inequality both within our organisation and in education.

Copies of the first equality scheme and reports can be obtained from the Diversity and Inclusion team at equality@qcda.gov.uk.

Equality impact assessments

We carry out equality impact assessments to check that key areas of our work (including our policies, services and functions) meet our statutory duties to eliminate discrimination, advance equality and foster good relations in relation to the protected characteristics covered by existing legislation. Our work also anticipates the implementation of the Equality Act 2010. We do this by assessing any impact that the policy/practice may have against each of the eight protected characteristics covered by the public duties. These protected characteristics include:

  • age
  • disability
  • gender reassignment
  • pregnancy and maternity
  • race
  • religion/ belief
  • sex
  • sexual orientation.

Equality policy and strategy board

Our equality policy and strategy board is chaired by the director for policy and strategy and reports to the Executive. The board is responsible for the development and implementation of the Single Equality Scheme. It also has responsibility for policy and strategy in relation to equality, inclusion and diversity within QCDA in respect of its remit for education and as an employer. The main role of this board is to:

  • progress our Single Equality Scheme
  • make sure we take a consistent approach across our organisation
  • discuss issues and share successes
  • report to our Executive and Board
  • make sure we comply with equalities legislation.
