Personal Support
As well as the rewards and pleasures associated with military life, there are particular demands and challenges that come out of the special nature of life in the Army. The Army recognises this and there are many layers of welfare support available.
AWS Personal Support aim
The aim of AWS Personal Support is to help serving married and single personnel and families with any personal or family difficulties that arise, by providing a confidential, comprehensive and professional welfare service.
A mixture of military and civilian Army Welfare Workers are available in the UK, British Forces Germany and BATUS (Canada). Casualty Key Workers are also available in the UK to provide specialist support to injured soldiers.

What about confidentiality?
AWS operates a strict confidentiality policy, in accordance with legal requirements, to ensure that personal information is not passed to anyone outside of AWS without the person's consent. There are a few exceptions to this principle involving situations when there is risk to self or other, serious criminal acts including breaches of security or if operational effectiveness is seriously compromised. Everyone, who uses the AWS, has a right to see personal information held about them, this is in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998.
Contacting the Army Welfare Service
There is an AWS team covering all locations. If you are unsure of where this might be you can contact the Army Welfare Information Service (email: LF-AWS-Welfareinformationservice@mod.uk ) who will help you identify the team in a specific area. You can contact AWS direct. We will respond as quickly as we can, usually within 7 days. We may ask you to come to the nearest AWS office, if this is not possible we will come to you.
