Work Focused Interviews for Partners and Enhanced New Deal for Partners: Quantitative Survey Research
Research Report No. 335
by Nick Coleman, Ken Seeds and Gareth Edwards
Work Focused Interviews for Partners (WFIPs) and the enhanced New Deal for Partners (NDP) were introduced in April 2004. They aim to bring partners of benefit customers closer to the labour market. The report presents findings from the first quantitative research with partners.
The research consisted of a survey of partners of main benefit claimants who were asked to attend a WFIP between October 2004 and January 2005. In addition, short complementary interviews were conducted with the main benefit claimant in the same household whenever possible. The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviewing in respondents' homes.
The aims of the survey were to examine participation in WFIPs, and to assess the success of WFIPs in reducing the number of workless households, as well as helping partners move closer to the labour market. It also examines the effectiveness of different elements of the WFIP delivery process, including referral to NDP, to identify lessons for improvement.
