Implementation of food chain information for calves
Tuesday 9 December 2008
The new legal requirement for food chain information (FCI) for calves comes into effect on 1 January 2009.
From 1 January 2009 FCI must be provided for all calves received for slaughter. Calves are defined as animals less than 8 months of age. The responsibility for receiving FCI rests with slaughterhouse operators, so arrangements will need to be made with suppliers about how to fulfil this responsibility.
Background to FCI and guidance on the information needed is enclosed, including a model document which can be adapted for use.
Information about food chain information and your responsibilities may be found in the Meat Industry Guide (Part Two, Chapter 9, Section D – page 209) at the related link below.
