Statutory Instruments may be made by UK Government departments and other Public Authorities which have powers to make such instruments under legislation passed by the United Kingdom Parliament. Since devolution in 1999 instruments that have been made by the National Assembly for Wales, although part of the United Kingdom numbered series, are the sole responsibility of the Assembly. Similarly, post-devolution, all Scottish Statutory Instruments are made by members of the Scottish Administration which is answerable to the Scottish Parliament.
These statistics record the subjects to which the Statutory Instruments in the UK series, made during 2007 - 30 June 2009, related and the number of instruments covering each subject. The total will be greater than the total number of Statutory Instruments as some instruments will have carried a range of Subject Headings.
For information about Scottish Statutory Instruments see the Scottish Statutory Instrument Statistics page on the Office of the Queen’s Printer for Scotland website.
