Sheppey Cluster (Swaleside)

The Sheppey Cluster is an amalgamation of the three establishments, Elmley, Standford Hill and Swaleside. 


Swaleside is a Category B Training Prison.

A Wing 126 Single Cells (Closed for re-wire) 

B Wing 126 Single Cells

C Wing 126 Single Cells 

D Wing 126 Single Cells

E Wing 140 Single Cells (a small number are doubles)

F Wing 120 Single Cells

G Wing 178 Single Cells

H Wing 178 Single Cells


Operational capacity: 1132 as of 3rd February 2010 (temporarily reduced to 986 whilst A wing is closed for re wiring)


Reception criteria: Swaleside will accept category B prisoners who are serving 4 years or more or should have at least 18 months left to serve. We are a main centre prison for prisoners in the first stage of their life sentence. We also accept prisoners in the second stage of their life sentence, giving us a total of 460 places for lifers.
