New releases from the Security Service reveal that photographer Lee Miller and Swedish actress Mai Zetterling were under investigation by the Security Service. The two women were closely watched for a number of years, following allegations of Communist sympathies.

The release, which sees the transfer of a further 60 files to The National Archives, features a number of other characters that came to the attention of the Service.

Notable files include those of German intelligence agent Gastao de Freitas-Ferraz who was captured on the high seas just in time to ensure the safety of the allied landings of North Africa.

Two files covering the exploits of Romanian defector Alexandru Ionescu shed light on the Security Service's identification of possible double agents in the immediate post-war period. The file also recounts the colourful personal circumstances of Ionescu's return to Romania.
