What's new?

  • The High Court's jurisdiction in relation to criminal proceedings
    27 July 2010
    We have published a report and draft Bill to clarify and simplify the relationship between the High Court and the Crown Court in criminal proceedings, to make the law more just, and to introduce two new rights of appeal.
  • Reforming the law on level crossings
    22 July 2010
    We have published a consultation paper. Closing date for responses: 30/11/10.
  • Removing obsolete statutes
    20 July 2010
    In our continuing work on statute law repeals, we have published a consultation paper recommending repeals of statutes on civil and criminal justice, spanning some 700 years of lawmaking from 1267 to 1988. Closing date for responses: 29/10/10.
  • Adult Social Care
    19 July 2010
    On 12 July 2010 the Department of Health published the White Paper, Equity and Excellence: Liberating the NHS. In the white paper, the Government mentions the Law Commission's review of adult social care.

The Law Commission is the statutory independent body created by the Law Commissions Act 1965 to keep the law under review and to recommend reform where it is needed.
