Community resilience is about communities and individuals harnessing local resources and expertise to help themselves in an emergency, in a way that complements the response of the emergency services.

In March 2010, we launched a public consultation on a package of draft documents about community resilience. The consultation documents included draft guidance for individuals and communities on how to prepare for emergencies and a draft strategic national framework for community resilience, which set out the Government’s contribution to build and enhance community resilience across the UK.
The documents were produced as a result of work with a range of stakeholder groups since November 2008. These included members of the public, local and national voluntary agencies, businesses, emergency responders and government departments.
The consultation closed on 1 July 2010. We aim to publish the Government response to the consultation and finalised documents in Autumn 2010.
We would still welcome your views on the draft documents below, and welcome feedback from individuals and communities who have used the documents or created their own. Please note that comments received after 1 July may not be considered as part of the formal consultation response.
