Benchmarking for the public sector

There are tools and services that are available to the public sector seeking to improve performance by learning from good practice 

Within the UK, the Public Sector Benchmarking Service (PSBS) is the government's focal point for managing knowledge on benchmarking and good practice.

For those seeking information on benchmarking within the European Union (EU) or those wanting to find benchmarking partners within the EU countries, the European Benchmarking Network (EBN) is a key resource.  The PSBS is the UK government's focal point for this network.

Public Sector Benchmarking Service

The Public Sector Benchmarking Service was launched in February 2001and provides a comprehensive service on benchmarking and good practice to those seeking to deliver better public services.

Users of the service can get:

information and advice on benchmarking, and taking forward individual projects;
details of potential partners from both the public and private sectors in the UK and abroad;
examples of successful projects and studies including lessons learned and the benefits derived;
details of events, conferences and other opportunities for networking and learning from others; and
information about the sources of advice and guidance on benchmarking and good practice.
