Art in the Olympic Park

Art in the Olympic Park
London 2012 has incorporated arts and culture into the heart of the Olympic Park right from the start, creating an international benchmark for future Olympic and Paralympic Games.

We want to ensure that arts and culture remain at the core of the Olympic Park after the London 2012 Games, so that the works can be admired by visitors to the Park.

We have commissioned artists who specialise in large-scale public works, including lighting and sound, colour and texture, and conceptual and interactive works. We have also worked with artists who carry out community-based projects around the five east London Host Boroughs (Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets, Waltham Forest and Greenwich).

Artists have worked on structures in the Park such as bridges, underpasses and utility buildings. Other concepts have been incorporated in planting schemes in the parklands.

By integrating arts and culture into the public spaces around the Park, our aim is to:

  • achieve a unique, world-class area that will attract new businesses;
  • create an area where new communities will want to live;
  • give existing local communities a sense of ownership and belonging; and
  • make east London a world-class visitor destination.
