Survey Work Begins For A1 Dishforth-Barton Improvement Scheme

HIGHWAYS AGENCY News Release (YH/325/04) issued by the Government News Network on 1 September 2004

Residents may notice activity along the route of the proposed A1 Dishforth to Barton Improvement Scheme when ground investigation works take place next month.

The work will involve digging trial pits along the route and drilling boreholes at possible bridge locations. The information gained will be used in the preparation of draft proposals for the improvement. These proposals are being drawn up in preparation for public consultation and publication of Draft Orders next year. The survey works will start in mid-September and take about 3 months to complete.

Additionally, geophysical survey work will be carried out in the Catterick area in the vicinity of Bainesse Farm to locate the extent of the Roman settlements at this location, and at Healam Bridge where a Roman Fort was established. This work will be carried out in September when farm crops have been harvested.

The proposed improvement is for the 38km (24 miles) stretch of the A1 between Dishforth and Barton.
