Using this site
Use the search facility (in the top right corner on every page) to find information related to a specific term. Type in the term you are looking for, e.g. 'ICT training', and click 'Search'. Visit the Search tips page for further advice.
Click on the 'Most popular' links on the right-hand side to visit pages that many users are finding worthwhile.
Explore the main areas
Click on each of the five main 'pillars' of TeacherNet (on the left-hand side) — Teaching and learning, Management, Professional development, Research, and Education overview — to find out what each section contains.
Read the latest news
Current news stories are shown in brief on the homepage. Click on a story to read more, or choose 'more stories' to view other recent news.
Bold underlined words or phrases are links. They will either take you to another page on TeacherNet, or they will open another website in a new browser window — but don't worry, TeacherNet will remain open in the window behind.
Use the left-hand navigation bar
As you explore TeacherNet, the navigation bar on the left-hand side will change to show pages within each area that you can visit, as well as the trail of pages you have visited to get where you are. Click on any page in the navigation bar to go to that page.
TeacherNet's comprehensive popular questions database is constantly updated with answers to frequently asked questions.
The mailings page has been replaced with the Online Publications for schools service. This contains DfES documents that can be viewed online, downloaded or ordered in hard copy. Registered users can receive monthly email alerts to the latest documents. You can search and access publications that are relevant to you.
Register with TeacherNet
You can register with TeacherNet by clicking 'Register' under the log-in box on the right-hand side. Once you have registered you can enter your log-in details every time you visit the site. As a registered user you can:
- Choose to have content relevant to your interests highlighted
- Receive a monthly newsletter featuring the latest education and TeacherNet news
- Receive email alerts when new Department for Education and Skills mailings to schools are available online
- Filter Department for Education and Skills online mailings so that you only receive relevant information in your 'Intray' (see above)
- Fill in forms using stored data
The Briefing area contains a series of bite-size briefings on topical issues. This section will be updated every four to six weeks with fresh, relevant information.
Save useful links
You can use the 'Pinboard' in the Mailing area to store links to pages that you have found useful.

Many of the files for download are available in Adobe Acrobat portable document format (PDF). If, once you have downloaded them, you cannot open the files then you need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader software.
The Community area is the interactive area of the site. It's a platform for users to communicate with educational experts, ministers and policy team members. TeacherNet delivers interactivity in a number of ways:
- TeacherNet's Forums area is a channel for mutual support and shared expertise. You can browse and read messages without registering, but to reply yourself or start a new topic you must be registered to the site. Registration to the site offers a number of additional services, including forums.
