About the digests

We've chosen studies which we think will throw light on practical questions and concerns. To start with we have targeted studies focused on clusters of themes:

Early years
Gender
Inclusion
Initial Teacher Training
Leadership
Literacy and Numeracy
Pupil grouping and organisation of classes
Science
Teaching assistants
Thinking skills and assessment that supports learning
Transition

We look for studies in the research journals because publication there means studies have already been scrutinised for academic rigour. We also appraise the studies to ensure that they provide strong evidence directly relevant to practice in schools and we check that the authors of the original study believe that the digest presents a faithful picture of their work.

As the site grows other themes will emerge. For example, the pupil grouping theme emerged from the digests rather than from our initial search categories.

Whilst seeking digests relevant to these themes, we look out for other interesting material. We shall use this process to help identify future potential themes for digests.
