COI to review design and creative services roster

COI Communications is to review its roster of design and creative services agencies.
The organisation, which works with departments across Whitehall on public information campaigns, first set up the roster in 2001.
COI is now looking for specialists in corporate identity, corporate literature, promotional literature and design of forms. Three new categories have been introduced - communications audits, contract publishing and image library creation.
Applications will be rigorously assessed on strict criteria, from creativity and effectiveness to financial stability and public sector understanding.
Andrew Prince, COI publications director, said:
"There is a new management team in place and we have a clear vision of what we need for the future, which is reflected in the roster categories.
"Integrating content and design work effectively is vital to produce the best results and we will be looking for agencies that can do this. It's important that we champion the cause of creativity within government and highlight the significant role that design plays in communications and in government."
In addition to the roster, COI will also create an approved list of companies that can be accessed at short notice for smaller projects. The approved supplier list is expected to include individuals and smaller companies with specialist skills such as design and proof-reading. Numbers will be limited on both the roster and approved supplier list.

The closing date for applications is 16 August 2004 and the roster will be in place by December 2004.
In the last year, the creative services team has worked with many government departments including Department for Work and Pensions, Department of Health, Department for Education and Skills and the Armed Forces.
Note to editors
- The roster process involves reviewing written applications with details of company experience and case studies. Following this, shortlisted agencies are invited to present to COI before the final roster is agreed.
- The design roster categories are: corporate identity, brand management, corporate literature, promotional literature, communications audits, forms & information design, contract publishing and image library creation and management.
- COI also plans to review its branding roster this summer.
