You and Your Family

This page contains information that may be useful to individuals and their families in helping to understand and prepare for emergencies.

Preparing for Emergencies
'Preparing for Emergencies - what you need to know,' is the common sense, practical guidance on prevention and planning for situations including major accidents and terrorist attacks. It has been written jointly by the Government and a wide range of experts including the emergency services, MI5, the Chief Medical Officer and the Emergency Planning Society. The booklet has been developed following extensive research into what sort of advice people would find useful.

The 22-page booklet includes advice on:

  • what to do in an emergency
  • coping with specific emergencies
  • basic first aid
  • how to prepare for an emergency
  • how you can help prevent a terrorist attack
