Rise in Blue Flags beach awards for the South West.

The South West has the largest concentration of Blue Flag awarded beaches in England a rise of 4 on the previous year. A total of 30 Beaches in the region now have the much coveted award.

The award is made in recongition of a beaches high standard of cleanliness and water quality. Blue Flags, which also reward easy access to beaches and facilities are issued in many conntries around the world. Numbers have risen on last year in Engalnd and Wales. Of the 120 awards made, 43 were issued in Wales, 5 more than last year, and 77 in England, an increase of 20.

The Blue Flag scheme is organised by the FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education) and administered in England by ENCAMS (Environmental Campaigns) who run the Keep Britain Tidy campaign and in Wales by Keep Wales Tidy.
