Preparing for emergencies

The North East has always had strong intra-regional links within the emergency planning community. Our role is to support and strengthen these links by working closely with regional partners who have emergency response duties under the Civil Contingencies Act 2004.

Government Offices work with local partners to ensure that regions are able to respond to large-scale incidents either within or bordering their regions. More information on the national picture

Partners include:

  • local authorities
  • emergency services
  • military
  • voluntary sector
  • transport and utility providers
  • business sector.

A key element of our work is to support the Regional Resilience Forum (RRF), the body that sets the strategic agenda for civil protection in the region. We provide the secretariat for the RRF and also works closely with central government to ensure that the North East region is fully engaged in emergency planning at a national level.
