Transport impacts on everyone's lives. Improving the transport system and its operation is a critical element in the Government’s economic, social and environmental agenda. Better access to jobs and services, particularly for those most in need, is a priority shared between local and central government, and a core aspect of Government Office work.

The Department for Transport’s (DfT) White Paper ‘The Future of Transport’ sets out a strategy for transport to 2030, around three themes: sustained investment, improvements in transport management and planning for the future.
The document covers all modes of transport with the aim of providing a transport network that can meet the challenges of a growing economy and increasing demand for travel, without adverse social or environmental impacts. Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber (GOYH) is working with regional stakeholders and partners to help deliver the White Paper.
GOYH Regional Planning, Transport & Environment team works with the Highways Agency, Strategic Rail Authority, Yorkshire and Humber Assembly and Yorkshire Forward on strategic transport issues while our Integrated Transport Team works with local authorities to monitor progress and delivery of their Local Transport Plans and to promote cycling, walking, road safety and initiatives such as green travel plans and safe routes to school.
