Sustainable Development aims to enable all people to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life without compromising the quality of life of future generations. It is a key government policy at both national and regional level and is an issue that affects every business, organisation and individual.

Government Offices work to promote sustainable development in business,
local government and the broader community. It is an overriding aim of GOYH
to contribute to sustainable development by working with partners to secure
the regional development and delivery of policies and programmes
including, for example:
National strategy for neighbourhood renewal
New deal for communities
Crime reduction partnerships
Regional planning and transport
Waste
Energy
Climate Change
GOYH also aims to ensure that sustainable development is embedded in all
its policies and programmes and operation.
Regional SD Indicators 2009
The regional SD indicators were published on 13 December 2005,
outlining how the Yorkshire and Humber region is performing against 44 of
