Social Inclusion

Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber (GOYH) is working to ensure that all of the region’s citizens, regardless of their background, experiences and circumstances, can gain access to the services and facilities they need to achieve their potential in life.

Social inclusion is a priority issue for many regions. This has been reflected in the regeneration agendas of Government Offices, Regional Development Agencies, through the Single Regeneration Budget, New Deal for Communities and other initiatives. More information on the national picture

In GOYH, our work involves:

  • ensuring a better start in life for children
  • raising educational attainment
  • improving skills and employment rates through working with regional and local partners
  • increasing access to services
  • improving health and housing
  • lowering crime

Social inclusion cuts across the majority of the work Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber carries out. It is tackled through the work of:

  • local strategic partnerships
  • new deal for communities programmes
  • neighbourhood management pathfinders
  • community cohesion programmes
  • Objective 1 funded programmes
  • housing initiatives including the Regional Homelessness Fourm
  • children and youth work
  • business competitiveness
  • transport and sustainability
