Sustainable Development

Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber (GOYH) works closely with a range of national, regional and local partners to ensure that sustainable development is embedded into all their policies and programmes. The Yorkshire and Humber’s Sustainable Development Board provides the regional focus for the sustainable development agenda in the region.

Sustainable Development aims to enable all people to satisfy their basic needs and enjoy a better quality of life without compromising the quality of life of future generations. It is a key government policy at both national and regional level and is an issue that affects every business, organisation and individual. More information on the national picture

Government Offices work to promote sustainable development in business, local government and the broader community. It is an overriding aim of GOYH to contribute to sustainable development by working with partners to secure the regional development and delivery of policies and programmes including, for example:

National strategy for neighbourhood renewal
New deal for communities
Crime reduction partnerships
Regional planning and transport
Waste
Energy
Climate Change

GOYH also aims to ensure that sustainable development is embedded in all its policies and programmes and operation.
