Worklessness Learning Exchange

This participative event (in partnership with the Learning Exchange) was held at Government Office for Yorkshire and the Humber on 21 July 2008. Cllr Stephen Houghton, Leader of Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council presented the keynote speech. The day was an opportunity for partners to discuss how planning and delivery are going, what common issues and support needs there might be, share best practice, and look at how authorities can work together in partnership. The key themes highlighted during the event were:

·         The importance of good HR/recruitment practices

·         Managing individuals and employers expectations

·         Need to engage better with SMEs

·         Better understanding of neighbourhoods

·         Flexibility in contracting processes

·         How to measure outcomes

·         Avoidance of silo working

Participants agreed that it would be useful to continue to share best practice, information and knowledge either through further events or a network. We are hoping to develop this network to cover all our localities not just those in receipt of WNF. We are in discussions with the RIEP about what support might be on offer and welcome your suggestions on what you would prefer to see offered?
