Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber (GOYH) works with regional partners to improve the economic performance of the region. This includes sponsorship of Yorkshire Forward (the Regional Development Agency), improving the skills of the regional workforce and facilitating work in enterprise.

Government Offices (GOs) work with Government departments and other partners to strengthen the economy in every region, working to reduce the gap in economic growth rates between the regions and ensure all regions are in the best position to recover from the economic downturn. More information on the national picture

Improving regional economic performance and delivering prosperity for all is a key objective for GOYH and in particular we are working to limit the effects of the economic downturn.

In July 2006, Yorkshire Forward launched the Yorkshire and Humber Regional Economic Strategy (RES) 2006-2015. As part of the review. GOYH had worked with regional partners and Government Departments to ensure the RES met regional priorities and was consistent with national policies.

A skilled and flexible workforce is essential to keep businesses competitive and improve individuals` career prospects. The Regional Skills Partnership has the task of improving adult skills in the region. The Partnership includes GOYH, Yorkshire Forward, local Learning and Skills Councils, employers and training providers.

The performance of the rural economy is important to achieving the GOYH objective of delivering prosperity for all. GOYH is working with partners to develop a Regional Rural Delivery Framework as part of the Rural Strategy.
