European Funding

The European Structural Funds Programmes are targeted at regenerating some of the most challenged urban and rural areas of the West Midlands, and providing support for reskilling and retraining its workforce.

The European Union supports poorer regions of Member States by providing funds to help them regenerate their economies and create new jobs. There are three funding programmes known collectively as structural funds: More information on the national picture

Funds from the 2000 to 2006 European Funding Programmes are administered by the Government Office for the West Midlands in partnership with key strategic organisations in the region. The West Midlands region was awarded over £575 million of Structural Funds money under the Objective 2 Programme. Together with the £325 million available under Objective 3, there was a total of £900 million available.

European Structural Funding is helping the West Midlands to boost its economic performance and improve the daily lives of the people who live, work and visit the region. From Birmingham and the Black Country in the centre, to Coventry and Warwickshire in the east, Herefordshire, Shropshire and Worcestershire in the west and Staffordshire in the north, hundreds of projects in the West Midlands are benefiting from the Objective 2 and Objective 3 Programmes.
