Transport

Government Office for the South West is responsible for promoting the Government's transport policy in the region. In November 2007, we allocated nearly £177m to Local Transport Authorities to spend in 2008/09 to 2010/11 for small scale projects such as bus priority, pedestrianisation and road saftey schemes as well as park and ride facilities. In addition, authorities were given over £351m for maintenance of their roads, structures and street lightening.

Local Transport Plans (LTPs) are the central building blocks of the Government’s integrated transport policy. Their introduction was announced in the Government’s Transport White Paper ‘A New Deal for Transport: Better for Everyone’ published in July 1998. More information on the national picture

We are working with our colleagues in DCLG and other Departments to see how (or whether) the targets and indicators that local authorities set for LTP2 can be amalgamated into Local Area Agreements.

Our regional partners are:

  • Highways Agency
  • South West Regional Assembly
  • South West Regional Development Agency
  • Local Authorities

 Key areas of work:

  • Local Transport Plans
  • Local Area Agreements
  • Greater Bristol Strategic Transport Study
  • Major Schemes
  • Regional Funding Allocations
