Volunteering is one of the ways in which we can build more active
communities. It helps members of a community to work to meet the
needs of their community.
The Queen's Award for Voluntary Service award recognises the
contribution that voluntary organisations and volunteers make.
Anyone, including people who benefit from the group’s
activities, may make a nomination. Nominations can be made at any
time and the awards are announced on 2 June on the anniversary of Her
Majesty’s coronation. Groups that provide a truly outstanding service
are selected each year to receive a crystal plaque and certificate. The
groups are also allow to use the award title and emblem on their
literature and representatives are invited to a reception hosted by Her
Majesty the Queen.
