Government Offices (GOs) work with the nine Regional Development Agencies (RDAs) on behalf of the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) .

We work with emda on a variety of issues to improve and develop the
East Midlands.
In relation to emda, we are responsible for:
- influence their strategic policy in line with government
objectives – e.g. regional economic strategy, and corporate plan
targets
- administer appointments to the Board of emda in line with guidelines
from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills
- represent emda’s interests within government and elsewhere in the
region, including maintaining an overview and understanding of emda’s
work
- work to achieve consistency between the Regional Assembly’s
scrutiny and our relationship withemda
- administer a framework of controls governing transactions by emda and
managing corporate relations
- undertake financial monitoring including payment of grant in aid
- monitor emda’s activity to brief departments and Ministers and
contribute to the assessment of emda’s performance
