Results of Opticians Visit

On Saturday Morning I recieved a letter from NHS with results of the Retinal Screening, It says that there have been changes resulting from diabetes but no treatment is required, just another check in 12 months.

I did have an eye test at my opticians a couple of months ago, shortly after I had been diagnosed as Diabetic, and I did tell them that before the check, after the check the optician said there were no changes indicative of Diabetes. So the normal NHS eye Check does not seem to be much use as far as diabetes is concerned as they did not pick up any changes but yet the Retina Check did !

I'm not an expert but I imagine in a normal eye test visit they'd only notice more serious damage. On a retinal screening visit they're taking a much more detailed look at whats going on in the back of your eyes.

Unless you have the drops in I don't think they can see enough to pass judgement.

I have mine in a month and I'm dreading it. I have to say I find it the very worst part of my diabetes monitoring.  I'm a bit squeamish when it comes to my eyes so it takes several attempts to get the drops into my eyes then they have lights shining into them for a long time and then the very worst bit - they show me the blown up pictures. I should really ask them not to because that makes me feel faint!

I did not find the Eye Test uncomfortable, the only down side was as it was a sunny day it was very bright, as my pupils were huge, I did think as I went round Tesco people probably think I am a druggie, but it did wear off after a couple of hours.
