Further Education

Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber works with its regional partners, the Learning and Skills Council and the Association of Colleges to promote the DfES agenda in relation to the Further Education sector.

Government Offices will work closely with regional partners to develop and implement the Further Education Reform Strategy. They will work together through Regional Quality Improvement Partnerships (RQIPs). More information on the national picture

‘Further Education’ describes education which is studied after compulsory education but which is not at degree level such as A and AS levels and many vocational qualifications. Most students studying Further Education (FE) are aged between 16 and 19, but there are many older learners studying in FE on either a full time or part time basis.
FE encompasses a wide range of provision: academic, vocational, Personal and Community Development Learning (PCDL) or basic skills.
FE colleges are actively involved in transforming the 14-19 curriculum working in partnership with both schools and work-based learning providers.
