Environment and Rural

Our region includes some of the remotest areas in England and some of the most densely populated. We coordinate efforts to promote sustainable development throughout the region, protect and enhance the environment and encourage more vibrant rural communities and economies, especially where deprivation occurs.

We aim for measurable improvements in air quality, renewable energy and biodiversity by 2010 and by 2008 in recycling and composting and in rural areas increased job opportunities, access to services and decent housing.
