The National Archives has been awarded three full-time collaborative PhD studentships by Research Councils UK, all commencing later this year. Applications are sought for the following:

Profiting from Pauperism? The Business of the New Poor Law in England and Wales 1834-c1909

An Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) award for a doctoral student to undertake research into the poor law in England and Wales. This is a partnership between King's College, London and The National Archives. Deadline: 26 May 2009 - Now closed

'We think, not I think'. Harnessing collaborative creativity to archival practice; implications of user participation for archival theory and practice

An Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) award for a doctoral student to undertake research into recent changes in the archive community. This is a partnership between University College London (UCL) and The National Archives. Deadline: 15 June 2009 - Now closed.

The Landscape of Poverty in Later Stuart Essex

An AHRC award for a doctoral student to undertake research into poverty in early modern Essex. This is a partnership between Roehampton University, the Friends of Historic Essex, Essex County Record Office and The National Archives. Deadline: 5 June 2009 - Now closed.
