In January, The National Archives will host a number of free events and talks where specialists will share their knowledge and expertise to offer useful advice on research and best practice for using the archives.

Subjects range from accessing census returns online to a practical guide on starting your search for your ancestors.


Other highlights include:

  • Kapow! Fifties Britain versus the comics menace - a review of the American-style comics condemned as harmful in mid-1950s Britain
  • Irish land records - advice on how to access 19th century census returns for Ireland
  • Royal Air Force records - advice on how to access the thousands of service records that are held by The National Archives

New to The National Archives?

There are daily drop-in sessions to introduce first-time visitors to the range of services available at The National Archives and how to make the most of our resources. These free sessions start at 11:30 and last approximately 30 minutes; pre-booking is not required.
