honours and ceremonials

The Honours system recognises the achievements of ordinary people who do extraordinary things.

Honours lists are announced twice every year, at the New Year and on the Queen's Birthday in June.

Our role

We consider nominations for candidates whose activities fall within our remit, i.e.  sports, the creative industries, including fashion design and advertising, art, music, film, museums, tourism and hospitality, libraries, heritage, archaeology, broadcasting and radio.

Our nominees are then considered by a number of independent advisory committees who decide upon a final list of nominees which goes forward to the Prime Minister.

Nominations

We want you to nominate people who have made a difference in their field of work or community - people who have gone that extra mile.
You can find examples of people who have made a difference in our leaflet, Who Will You Nominate.

We accept nominations at any time of the year. You can make a nomination by downloading and completing the public nomination form.
