Establishment of a National Security Council

Cabinet Office crestThe Prime Minister is establishing a National Security Council (NSC), which will oversee all aspects of Britain’s security.

The Prime Minister has appointed Sir Peter Ricketts (Permanent Undersecretary at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office) as his National Security Advisor, a new role based in the Cabinet Office.

Cabinet Office crestThe Rt Hon Gordon Brown has tendered his resignation as Prime Minister to Her Majesty the Queen.

Her Majesty has now asked the Rt Hon David Cameron to form a government.
