The transition to a low carbon world will transform our whole economy. It will change our industrial landscape, the supply chains of our businesses and the way we all live and work. The vast majority of, if not all, economic activity in Britain will have to reduce its carbon impact significantly.
A low carbon industrial strategy must seize the opportunities that will come with change. That requires a new industrial activism for a new green industrial revolution.
A new industrial activism has been placed at the heart of the Government’s Low Carbon Industrial Strategy, launched on 15 July 2009. The UK aims to lead the move to a low carbon economy in a coordinated drive to tackle climate change. The Low Carbon Business Opportunities Unit (LCBO) is working to help businesses overcome the challenges and grasp the opportunities from the move to a low carbon economy.
BIS-commissioned market intelligence puts the global market value of the low carbon and environmental goods and services sector at around £3 trillion in 2007/8. The UK’s sector is already valued at £106.5 billion with over 880,000 jobs (nearly 446,000 when excluding jobs in the supply chain).
The Low Carbon Transition News Hub provides up-to-date news from across Government on the action it is taking to deliver a low carbon future for the UK, including the latest updates on the Low Carbon Industrial Strategy.
