GPS Digest September 2008

Issue 8 - September 2008

Welcome back from the summer break! We hope you enjoy this month's Digest; there has certainly been plenty happening since our last edition in July.

The 2008 cohort for the Government Procurement Graduate Scheme has just been rolled out and 10 new graduate trainees have been placed in procurement roles across Government- boosting the overall GPGS total to 22 trainees in 14 Departments/Agencies. The new 2008 graduates are currently attending a packed induction week to prepare them for their new roles. If you want to find out how your Department can become involved in GPGS 2009 contact Alex Holden (alex.holden@ogc.gsi.gov.uk) who will be happy to help you. Further information about the cohort and their welcome to the Civil Service from Sir Gus O Donnell (Cabinet Secretary) and Nigel Smith (Head of GPS) will be included in the next GPS Digest.

The career profiles have proved popular with Digest readers. Indulge your curiosity with this month's profile; as a timely introduction to the academic year, it features Ian Taylor - Commercial Director, Department for Children Schools and Families. We are sure you will not be disappointed.

The GPS Reward Survey closed on 22 August and attracted an excellent response rate of 40% - an above industry average. The survey was sent to over 3,500 procurement professionals at all grades across Government. The results will inform the GPS Reward Strategy, which will be ready for launch in November 2008. Many thanks from the GPS Division to all of you who completed the survey. We will continue to keep you up to date.

Finally, GPS will soon be launching the GPS Network Events, which will provide GPS members with opportunities to hear from exclusive speakers and meet colleagues from across government in an informal environment. Our first speaker is Colin Perry, Programme Director for the National Lottery Commission. The talk will be about how he led the recent procurement project to secure a new provider for the National Lottery. More information will follow shortly, and we hope to see you there!
