The Rt Hon Rosie Winterton MP
Minister for Regional Economic Development and Coordination (jointly with the Department for Communities and Local Government)
Responsible for strengthening regional economies (including Grants for Business Investment), Regional Development Agencies and sub-national implementation, Solutions for Business (business support simplification).
Rosie Winterton was appointed Minister for Regional Economic Development and Coordination at the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills on 5 June 2009. Rosie holds this Ministerial role jointly between BIS and the Department for Communities and Local Government. She is also Minister for Yorkshire and The Humber, a position she has held since January 2008.
Rosie was previously Minister of State for Pensions Reform at the Department for Work and Pensions (October 2008 – June 2009), a Minister at the Department of Transport (June 2007- October 2008) and at the Department of Health (2003-2007). Rosie has also served as Parliamentary Secretary at the Lord Chancellor’s Department from 2001 to June 2003.
Rosie was elected as MP for Doncaster Central in 1997. Before becoming a member of Parliament, Rosie was John Prescott’s Head of Office (1994-1997) and Managing Director of Connect Public Affairs (1990-1994). She has also worked as a parliamentary officer for Southwark Council and the Royal College of Nursing.
Rosie graduated from Hull University with a degree in History. She started her career as a Constituency Personal Assistant to John Prescott MP.
