This section describes how to progress through the site from the home page to the mapping tables.

1. The site has been broadly broken down into the NVQs that it covers. These NVQs have then been grouped by the 11 framework areas defined by The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA), as well as a further grouping, "Cross Sector Skills" for NVQs that don't relate to one specific framework area. NVQs can be found by either selecting the appropriate framework area from the home page, or selecting "Full NVQ Listing" for a list of all available NVQs.
   
   
   
   
2. As the NVQ lists tend to be quite long, they are broken down alphabetically. The tabs along the top of the NVQ listings can be used to show all NVQs beginning with that letter.
   
   
   
   For more information on the icons displayed next to the NVQ titles, see the key at the top of the NVQ list. Once the required NVQ has been found, clicking on it will display the list of levels at which the NVQ is offered.
   
   
   
   
3. Selecting the required NVQ level will display a list of the units and elements that the NVQ contains.
   
   
   
   Selecting a unit will show all of the elements that the unit contains. Selecting an element will show the mappings from that element to the Adult Literacy and Numeracy standards.
   
   
4. The mapping page lists the different points contained by the element and any mappings that relate these points to the Adult Literacy and Numeracy core curricula. Clicking on the standards mappings will open the Adult Literacy/Numeracy core curricula sites at the appropriate level.
   
   
   
   

The walkthrough above gives an overview of navigating through the site to the mapping tables. During the walkthrough the user may notice the purple "crumb-trail" building up as they worked down toward the information needed.



This crumb-trail builds up a path from the home page to wherever in the site the user is currently looking. Clicking on any item in the crumb-trail will return the user to the appropriate page, allowing them to back-track as needed.

There are also useful quick links along the dark blue top bar of the site.

The search box will be visible at the bottom of any pages from which it is available (see below). Typing text into this box and clicking "Submit" will perform a search for this text over all of the NVQs and mappings. The results will show all NVQs that contain text matching the search term. Clicking on one of the NVQ titles will take the user straight to that NVQ in the site.

Next to each search result is a link showing how many matches for the search text were contained within that NVQ. Clicking on this link will expand the search result to show the units and elements that these matches lie under.
