Business and Industry

We work with regional partners in the areas of business performance, skills, enterprise and innovation.

Government Offices (GOs) represent the interests of 12 government departments in the English regions. They support the departments’ aims of improving economic performance, skills, productivity and innovation. By influencing the priorities set by Government and regional partners for the regional economic development, we assist in their effective delivery. More information on the national picture

GOEM works with the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) to support delivery of its Enterprise and Manufacturing strategies in the region. In particular, we influence local and regional partners to ensure they promote innovation, enterprise, productivity and skills through their strategies and delivery plans. We provide local and regional information on a regular basis to BIS on the current conditions for businesses in the East Midlands and intelligence on the concerns of businesses from all sectors.

We work with the East Midlands Development Agency (emda) in its lead role providing support to all busineesses through the Business Link Service. This service provides a wide range of support to businesses of all sizes and is the single gateway in the region for free and impartial information, advice and access to grants and further support. GOEM also supports emda's on-going programme of simplifying business support as part of Government's new Solutions for Business package.

GOEM is part of the Employment Skills and Productivity (esp) partnership in the region, which supports the Regional Economic Strategy for the East Midlands, 'A Flourishing Region'. Our roles as a partner include ensuring that regional and local activity is aligned to Government priorities, helping to clearly communicate national policy and influencing ongoing national policy development.
