European Funding

The European Funding Team within the Government Office for the East of England has responsibility for the management and administration of over £185m worth of European Social Fund (ESF) allocated to the East of England Region from European Structural Fund Programmes for 2007-2013.

The European Union supports poorer regions of Member States by providing funds to help them regenerate their economies and create new jobs. There are three funding programmes known collectively as structural funds: More information on the national picture

The team also has responsibility for the closure of a number of European Structural Funds in the East of England for the 2000-2006 programme period. These are the Objective 2 (ESF and ERDF) and Objective 3 (ESF) programmes and of the Urban II (Peterborough) and Leader+ (Fens and Broads) Community Initiatives.

Working in Partnership
The development, implementation and management of European Structural Funds in the East of England operate with the full involvement of key stakeholders and regional partners. The East of England European Programmes Strategy Group (EPSG) is the key regional partnership forum.

Equality
The EPSG Equalities Group is responsible for advising on and monitoring the development and implementation of equality of opportunity through Structural Funds Programmes in the East of England Region with a particular emphasis on gender mainstreaming.

Environmental Sustainability
The EPSG Environmental Sustainability Group is responsible for advising on and monitoring the development and implementation of Environmental Sustainability through Structural Fund Programmes in the East of England Region.
