Prevent funding

The Government cannot administer Prevent from a desk in Whitehall.┬áLocal authorities, who know their communities best, deliver this work at a local level. That is why the Department is making over £50m available to local authorities between 2008-09 and 2010-11 to help them to deliver Prevent.

In 2009-10, 82 local authorities received £16.5m to support local Prevent activities.

In 2010-11, 94 local authorities meeting the Prevent funding criteria will receive £24m that will allow them to support the projects they have identified. For more information go to:

Most of the Department's Prevent funding is allocated to local authorities through Area Based Grant. Although some areas have received resources to deliver Prevent specifically, all areas should make use of all available resources to tackle violent extremism, support vulnerable individuals and strengthen communities. Existing local resources can often be used to support local Prevent delivery.

A list of these authorities receiving Prevent funding is available to download below.
